Japanese Hostage Crisis
The Islamic State had released a video showing the beheading of Kenji Goto, a Japanese freelance journalist, on February 1st. Goto was abducted last October after entering Syria to search for his friend Haruna Yukawa, who was touring in the Middle East to aid the local people and was taken captive in August. The IS demanded USD 200 million for the two hostages, but Japanese Government refused as the Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said it was meant to express Japan’s strong commitment to fighting terrorism and bringing peace as well as stability in the region.
